MARTINIQUE
We woke up this morning, felt some sore muscles, but started packing, cleared
out of St. Lucia and headed North towards Martinique.
Hmmm... the wind was blowing quite hard from the Northeast around 20 knots, the
waves were high ( we have not yet seen them that high), they were breaking over
the bow with at least 10ft - it was quite uncomfortable to say the least.
Thankfully the sea calmed down once we left St. Lucia behind and we arrived in
Le Marin in the afternoon.

We anchored and hopped immediately in the dinghy to check out the local French
supermarket. We have heard so many good things about the groceries here, like in
France. We envisioned French baguette, croissant, fromage blanc, yoghurt ... all
the dairies on the Southern island were hard to get and expensive. And indeed we
were in French heaven here!
The first freshly baked and still warm baguette was gone before we even reached
the dinghy, and of course we had to stop at a little street cafe for a "pression"
( beer) and an Orangina - it was like a dream for us, we felt like in Southern
France.
We embraced the flair and also the French language.
Our first impression of this town was great. In comparison to St. Lucia or
Grenada we did not see any shacks or very low-income houses along the beaches.
Very nice.
The weather is supposed to get worse over the next days, the traditional
Christmas winds are coming with 30-35 knots.
